Back in June of 2020, we told you that zoning permits had been issued for a 46-unit building at 1309-25 Cambridge in West Poplar on the site of a vacant lot next to the Richard Allen Homes. The project also includes 15 automobile parking spaces and 16 bicycle stalls. We were in the area earlier this week and decided to stop by the site to see what was happening with the project.
Construction is well underway and the structure is now rising out of the earth. The first level seems to be constructed of board formed concrete with the elevator shaft growing behind it. We imagine that wood framing for the upper floors will proceed in the near future. Floors 2 through 5 will be clad in 3 shades of metal siding. A hardscaped roof deck will overlook Cambridge Street and it looks like many of the residential units will have private terraces.
It’s great to see 46 residential units added so close to the Girard Broad Street Line Station. This site was formerly a blighted vacant lot. Soon, it will be home to nearly 100 people. With several other projects underway or in the pipeline in the immediate vicinity, we hope to see more retail operators open up shop along Broad Street and Girard Avenue.
What do you think about this project?
